Today we continue talking about the people around the born of Christ and those who played a role at the birth. The first week we looked at Elizabeth and Zacharias and today we look at a person who many people look at a villain in the Christmas story. The Innkeeper, who first told them they had no room and ended up putting them in the barn. I want to show of what an important role that he has played in the history of the church.

  • He had no signs!
    • Angels
    • Host of Angels
  • He played a part in prophecy and didn’t know it.
    • Micah 5:1 (NIV) Marshal your troops, O city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel’s ruler on the cheek with a rod. 2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
    • John 7:42 (NIV) Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David’s family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?
  • He played a part in the present and was thanked for it!
    • Luke 2:10a…I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
  • He played a part in history and probably had no clue how important the baby was until later!
    • Never mentioned again as far as we know.
  • He plays a part today if you will let him!
    • Have you said no room today to Christ?
    • Will you find a place for Him today in your life?
    • Can you focus on Christ in all the hustle and bustle of the season?
