Joseph’s Court
Genesis 37-50

  • Don’t let age be a factor in your dreams.
    • When Joseph was seventeen years old, he often tended his father’s flocks.
  • Don’t give up if your family thinks your being crazy.
    • His brothers responded, “So you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you will reign over us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and the way he talked about them.
    • This time he told the dream to his father as well as to his brothers, but his father scolded him.
  • Don’t give up if there is a bump in the road.
    • Then they grabbed him and threw him into the cistern. Now the cistern was empty; there was no water in it.
    • Instead of hurting him, let’s sell him to those Ishmaelite traders.
    • So he took Joseph and threw him into the prison where the king’s prisoners were held, and there he remained.
    • Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer, however, forgot all about Joseph, never giving him another thought.
  • Don’t give up if it takes longer than you expect.
    • He was thirty years old when he began serving in the court of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. And when Joseph left Pharaoh’s presence, he inspected the entire land of Egypt.
    • As predicted, for seven years the land produced bumper crops.
    • This famine that has ravaged the land for two years will last five more years, and there will be neither plowing nor harvesting.

Lessons to Learn

  • If God in it He will take care!
  • Don’t whine when the down times come.
  • God dreams are bigger than we think.
    • Genesis 50:20-21 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. 21 No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them.
