What a promise for those that have devoted themselves to the Lord. We continue study the beatitudes today and as we learned with a response is a promise. Today I want to talk about pure heart. First we want to look, why we need a pure heart and then ways to make sure that our hearts are pure.

  1. Why a pure heart?
    1. It beats an average of 75 times a minute, 40 million times a year or two-and-a-half billion times in a life of 70 years.  At each beat the heart discharges about four ounces of blood.  This amounts to three thousand gallons a day or 650,000 gallons a year.  The heart does enough work in our hour to lift a 150 pound man to the top of a three-story building, enough energy in 12 hours to lift a 65 ton tank one foot off the ground, enough power in 70 years to lift the largest battleship afloat completely out of the water!”  Paul Lee Tan
    2. 1 Samuel 16:7, God spoke to Samuel about King Saul as he was about to anoint David to replace him:  “Do not look at his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.  The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.  Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.
    3. 2 Timothy 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
    4. 1 Peter 1:22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.
    5. Number one reason people die in the US is heart disease, which is true of the walk with Christ.
  2. Ways to keep Pure?
    1. Mind
      1. Philippians 4:8 – And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
    2. Motives
      1. Philippians 1:15-17 It’s true that some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives. 16 They preach because they love me, for they know I have been appointed to defend the Good News. 17 Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me.
    3. Master
      1. Matthew 6:24 – No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
      2. Mathew 12:30 – Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.
