Over the past few days, many opinions and feelings have been tossed around because of the new law in Indiana. After much thought and consideration I have decided to give my opinion.
First, I wish that everyone would take time to read what the law actually says. It is important not to listen to the media or any other opinions, but rather read the law for yourself.
As I have thought about the law and read about it, I think that it is sad that we have to pass a law in a country that is supposed to be free. One that was founded on the principles of love and respect. The reason that the law should not be necessary is that if we, as Americans, were to understand that loving and respecting others opinions, views, and lifestyle should never not cause us respect and love one another. As a pastor, I have many friends that have different lifestyles and views of what I believe, but we still respect each other and have a friendship. They honor me and I honor them even though I may not agree with what they do. If I know that someone has different views than me, out of respect for them, I cannot force them to change their views or opinions.
We should treat others how Christ treats us, with love and respect.
12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
Colossians 3:12 & 14
As a nation, we should put on all these traits and live our lives as Jesus lived his. Jesus never turned down a person because of how different they were, instead he treated them just as he would have wanted to be treated. He cared for them, and loved them.
Let’s become like Christ in this world today.
14 Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 13:14
Let’s go out and love people unconditionally. Let’s treat people with respect no matter what. Let’s go out and do what Christ did and make a difference in this country that was founded on love and respect.
