The Proverbs 31 picture of a woman who fears the Lord in verses 10-31 is quite impressive. I will admit I hadn’t read this proverb until a few months ago and I was very disappointed in myself. I’d like to think I’m a good wife and mother, but the Proverbs 31 woman seems like superwoman! Let’s hit the highlights:
v. 11- The heart of her husband trusts her
v. 12- She does him good and not harm
v. 13- Works with willing hands
v. 15- Provides food for her household
v. 17- Is a strong woman
v. 18 &19- She stays busy and works hard
v. 20- Takes care of the poor and needy
v. 21- Keeps her family members and household safe from bad weather
v. 26- Only says things that are wise and kind
v. 28-31 Praised by her family, her community, and the Lord
Impressive! What really got me was verse 26. “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue”. Can you imagine what it would be like if we said only wise or kind words to others? What kind of a difference could we make?
Personally, this is what I would like to work on for this month. It’s easy to say kind things to the people we love, but what about the people that are hard to get along with? Or to speak with wisdom- rumors and gossip would be minimized. I’m sure if we practiced this, we will be blessed- if not today, then in heaven.
