Today we are going to spend a little time talking about faithfulness, another fruit of the Spirit. Faithfulness is rooted in the word faith, so what is faithfulness, faithfulness is the characteristic of being reliable, unfailing, responsible, steady and sure.  Is that you today, as you thing about this fruit in your life would people say he or she is faithful they are trustworthy, and people of their word.  I want us to look at a life of someone who wasn’t perfect but stayed faithful because He believed in God.

Romans 4:18-22 (Today’s New International Version)

18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”  19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22 This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”

Signs of a faithful person.

  1. Against all hope
    1. Romans 4:18  Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be…
    2. Hebrews 11:17-19 It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, 18 even though God had told him, “Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted.” 19 Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again. And in a sense, Abraham did receive his son back from the dead.
  2. A steady course
    1. Romans 4:19, 20a Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver.
    2. James 1:6-8 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.
  3. A Deep belief
    1. Romans 4:20b-22  …through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22 This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.”
    2. Hebrews 11:1 Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.
  4. Application
    1. Where is your level of faithfulness today?
    2. Are you wavering today?
    3. Is your belief a deep belief or surface level?
