THE BAD – Uncontrollable

  • Proverbs 12:18   There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts
  • James 3:8 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness.
  • Proverbs 15:1B  but a harsh word stirs up anger.
  • James 1:26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.
  • Psalm 52:2 Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit.
  • I Peter 2:1  …put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.

THE GOOD

  • Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
  • Psalm 35:28  Then my tongue shall tell of your righteousness and of your praise all the day long.
  • Psalm 191:171 My lips will pour forth praise, for you teach me your statutes.
  • Proverbs 15:4  A gentle tongue is a tree of life,
  • Proverbs 21:23 Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.
  • Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

THE HOW

Psalm 19:14   Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Exodus 14:1 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

Titus 3:2 To speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.

THE PROMISE

1 Peter 3:10 Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit
