Today we will begin a new series looking the heroes’ of the faith that are cheering you on the in race that we call life. The writer of Hebrews tells us that a great cloud of witnesses are watching over not to beat us down or judge but to cheer us on in the struggles that we face and over the next several weeks I want to share what some of them might be saying if they were to join us in the race. We will look at some that we all of heard of and some that we may not think about as much. Today I want to share what Rebekak the wife of Isaac might be saying to us in the church today.
Genesis 24
- Don’t give yourself before it is time.
- 16 – Rebekah was very beautiful and old enough to be married, but she was still a virgin.
- Give respect to people.
- 18A – Yes, my lord,” she answered,
- Give out of what you can.
- 18b – lowered her jug from her shoulder
- Give above and beyond.
- 19 – When she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels, too, until they have had enough to drink.” 20 So she quickly emptied her jug into the watering trough and ran back to the well to draw water for all his camels.
- Give because God was in it.
- 21 – The servant watched her in silence, wondering whether or not the Lord had given him success in his mission.
- 50-51 – Then Laban and Bethuel replied, “The Lord has obviously brought you here, so there is nothing we can say. 51 Here is Rebekah; take her and go. Yes, let her be the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord has directed.”
- Giving results in extra blessing for her and her family.
- 53- Then he brought out silver and gold jewelry and clothing and presented them to Rebekah. He also gave expensive presents to her brother and mother.
