Today is another sermon in the series “They Had to Do It,” as we continue looking into why they crucified Christ. I saw a new a commercial on TV this week watching the basketball games that maybe will help us dive into this week’s topic. It was the airline commercial about bags flying free. What does a bag flying free have to do with the death of Christ and the reason behind the leaders desire to kill Christ. I believe that they had to because of the encouragement that Christ gave to the people that struggle with life issues. He came that they might have a better life. We are going to look at a few of these issues and see what Christ said to the people.

  1. The Gate to success!
    1. Center Your Life on Christ
    2. Matthew 19:25-26 The disciples were staggered. “Then who has any chance at all?” Jesus looked hard at them and said, “No chance at all if you think you can pull it off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it.”
      1. Three concerns of everyone in the bag.
        1. Worry
          1. Matthew 6:25 That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?
          2. John 14:1, Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
          3. John 14:27 I am leaving you with a gift peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
        2. Fear
          1. John 12:15 Don’t be afraid, people of Jerusalem. Look, your King is coming, riding on a donkey’s colt.
          2. Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
        3. Anger
          1. Psalm 4; 3 Don’t sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent.
          2. I Corinthians 13 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
          3. Luke 6:35 Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.
