Last weekend we started a new series on the family. We looked at some dysfunctional families in the Bible and realized what looked dysfunctional to some may not be that bad, but also realized that at times in our lives we are dysfunctional when not serving the Lord. We as believers are all part of the family of God. This week I want us to look at ways of dealing with wayward family members. Again, let’s remember that God has all put us on this earth. So in dealing with a wayward family member we need to extend grace.
- Remember that we to were wayward.
- Galatians 4:3 And that’s the way it was with us before Christ came. We were like children; we were slaves to the basic spiritual principles of this world.
- Remember that each of us has our own bend.
- Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.
- Remember to be looking for ways to restore not destroy.
- Luke 15:20 So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.
- Remember the grace and forgiveness given to you.
- Colossians 3:12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
