Today we continue our series about the church and the role that Meridian Woods should play in our lives.  The last two weeks we have talked about finances and the need to support the church through giving or ones time and money for the Kingdom.  To I want to share about Discipleship.  We have a team for this at the church.  In addition, as I prepared this sermon I also thought about mothers and how mothers should help to grow themselves and their children in Christ.  So let’s look at six C’s that help us to grow into Christ.

  • Commitment
    • Acts 20:24B But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus
    • Eph 6:4b – Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
  • Caring-
    • II Timothy 1:7 – For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.
  • Character –
    • Proverbs 10:9 – People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will slip and fall.
  • Cultivate –
    • Psalm 78:5b-6 – He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, 6 so the next generation might know them even the children not yet born and they in turn will teach their own children.
  • Coach –
    • I Corinthians 9:27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
    • Proverbs 22:6 – Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
  • Correction –
    • II Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
    • Proverbs 13:24 – Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.
    • Proverbs 19:18 Discipline your children while there is hope. Otherwise you will ruin their lives.
