Today is Palm Sunday the beginning of the most Holy Week of the Christian Church.

I want to spend a few minutes this morning thinking about the Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.  As we look into the Gospel of Luke let’s focus on these verses:

Luke 19:41-44
“As Jesus drew near Jerusalem,
he saw the city and wept over it, saying,
“If this day you only knew what makes for peace–
but now it is hidden from your eyes.
For the days are coming upon you
when your enemies will raise a palisade against you;
they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides.
They will smash you to the ground and your children within you,
and they will not leave one stone upon another within you
because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”

  • What is it the broke Jesus?
    • It was a time of Celebration.
      • Passover Week
      • The King was Coming
        • Luke 19:37-38 As he was drawing near, already on the way down the Mount of Olives,  the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
    • Jesus knew it was the continued fade of the nation.
      • If this day you only knew what makes for peace–
        but now it is hidden from your eyes.
        For the days are coming upon you
        when your enemies will raise a palisade against you;
        they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides.
        They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
