Today we begin our new series on the family. As we think back over the years, many of us have watched families of all kinds on TV. We will be comparing the scripture to the way the world says to raise a family to make sure and have the proper foundation straight from word of God. Today we begin with a dysfunctional family. All of us make judgments about other families and say things like his parents should have raised them better, or he never make it in the life. So I want us to listen to some stories of what most of us would consider to be weird or missing a link type families, yet somehow God did a great thing we all the families.
Mother and father loss home of dreams and have to move to ghetto causing brother to kill his own brother.
Adam and Eve
Father sold the farm and told family to pack up but had no clue where they were going to live, after hearing a strange voice.
Abraham
Mother gave son away who later grew up to kill a couple guys in the back ally.
Moses
Family members upset because one kid is getting better treatment than others, so they get rid of kid.
Joseph
Father tell how important it is to correct kids even if you have to use belt for punishment once in awhile.
Solomon
Teenage girl gets pregnant and blames it on somebody else.
Mary
Couple boys given the family business that is doing great, yet they leave it all to follow some dude with some weird religious teaching.
Peter, James and John and Andrew
Father who lets his son take the wrap for some crimes that he didn’t even commit.
God
So what should our response be to someone who is dysfunctional.
- Lower- Humble yourself, you don’t know all the facts. Realize it can happen to anyone.
- Listen – What is God saying, What are others saying sometimes constructive criticism can be helpful.
- Love – God, Love others
- Launch – Get up off your backside, Your life is what you make if you are willing to let God be involved
